a major in the Revolution and a representative from Wake County in the legislature both during and after the war. He married Ferebee Smith, daughter of the founder of Smithfield in Johnston County, and lived at "Clay-Hill-on-the-Neuse."Some of his descendants, bearing the name, removed to Georgia.
