Nels Peter JOHNSON
Obituary: Grace, Idaho - Nels Peter Johnson, 82, died at his home Friday afternoon following a year's illness. He was born June 6, 1869 in Richmond, Utah, son of James and Larcine Nelson Johnson. He came to Gem Valley in 1889 with his wife, Mrs. Minnie Whitehead Johnson, whom he had married May 25, 1891 in Richmond. She died Dec. 30, 1930 and in Nov, 1939 he married Libby Bean at Idaho Falls. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as second and then first assistant in the Sunday School Superintendency in the Thatcher Ward, and then became superintendent in 1919. He also served as recreation director in the Thatcher Ward and and later in the Oneida Ward. In civic life he served as road overseer and as president of the Bench and the Oneida Canal Companies. He was a resident of Niter for 41 years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Libby Bean, Niter; the following sons and daughters; Leo Johnson, Grace; Ace F. Johnson, Hazelton; Mrs. Chris Keller, Ogden, Utah; Lucian Johnson, Frank Johnson and Denzil Johnson all of Grace; one brother, Dan Johnson, San Francisco; one sister, Mrs. Mary Bell, Richmond, Utah; 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Williams Ward chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, under the direction of the ward bishopric. Friends may call at the home of a son, Frank Johnson, at Niter, Sunday evening and Monday evening until time of the services. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery under the direction of the Webb Mortuary of Preston.

Obituary, Salt Lake Tribune: Death Claims Ex-Official of Grace Legion - Grace, Idaho - Leo Nels Johnson, 63, former district commander of the American Legion and former Grace post commander and post historian died Saturday in a Soda Springs hospital. He was a former rural mail carrier and for 30 years operated a barber shop at Grace. Born Sept. 27, 1892 at Richmond, Utah, he was a son of Nels Peter and Minnie Whitehead Johnson. He moved to Thatcher in 1895 and to Grace in 1923, residing here since. He married Nellie van den Akker Aug 13, 1919 in the Logan Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving are his widow, who is a correspondent for the Salt Lake Tribune; daughters, Mrs Kathryn Eschler, Salt Lake City; Mrs. La Preal Allred, Soda Springs, a son, Dale, Salt Lake City, five grandchildren; brothers, Lucian and Denzil, Grace; Frank, Clifton; a sister, Mrs. Alvina Keller, Ogden. Funeral will be Wednesday 1 p.m. in Bannock Stake Tabernacle with Ervin B. McCann, LDS bishop, officiating. Friends may call at the Allen Mortuary, Soda Springs, until Tuesday at 4 p.m. and at the family home until time of service.
He married Minnie Ann Whitehead 25 May 1891 at Richmond, Cache, Utah . Minnie Ann Whitehead was born at Ogden, Weber, Utah 15 Mar 1874 daughter of Francis Whitehead and Jacosa Jane Robinson .
