                   Historical information included in notes.  Family records listed parents of Mary as Philemon Hawkins and Delia Martin, with extending pedigrees following those parents.  Marriage records and other evidence suggests that these are not the parents of Mary Hawkins, but rather John Hawkins and Mary Wyatt.

Consent of [BO:John Hawkins:BO], father of Mary, as she was underage.---Mary is mentioned several times in conjunction with her husband selling land. One occasion in May, 1774, has both Mary, as wife of Nathaniel, and her mother Mary, wife of John Hawkins, Esq. bothrelinquishing their rights of dower on a parcel of land deeded to Abraham Mayfield by Nathaniel. Mary's will was written Aug. 20,1824, in Madison Co., at which time she gave her age as 78 years old. One unique feature of her will is the feminist sounding statement in the preamble, "and knowing that it is appointed for all women once to die,". Her son Wyatt and a friend, Wm. M. Stokes were appointedexecutors. Her will leaves 490 acres in Erwin Co. on the waters of Camp Creek to her sons Wyatt and John Bullock, bequests to daughters Fanny Allen, Aggy Burford, and Annie Lumpkin. She also mentionsgrandchildren Francellyn, George Pinkney, Elizabeth B., and Henry Wyatt, all surnamed Allen. It is interesting to see the name Henry Wyatt repeated, this was the name of Mary's grandfather. Her will was probated Sept. 14, 1830 in Oglethorpe Co.
