REFN176 WILLIAM LEAKE, SR. (7th Great-grandfather of Kelsey Elizabeth Denkers)lived in Caswell Co, N orth Carolina during the 1780's. It is a family tradition that Providence's last name was BRY ANT. There was believed to have been at least one other girl in this family according to cens us records. Also it is believed from census records that these are the second wives of childr en, Samueland Jeremiah. WILLIAM bought 650 acres of land from the state of North Carolina i n 1772. About 1774/1775 he sold 250 acres and PROVIDENCE signed away her dower rights. So w e know for a fact that WILLIAM was in North Carolina or lived near the Virginia & North Carol ina border in 1772 when he purchased the property. The two children whose names are unknow n were killed by the Indians, two other children escaped.
