As a young man, Willliam took part in the famous Monmouth Rebellion in Scotland and had to flee for his life. He escaped in a small fishing boat and went o North Ireland where he settled in Londonderry County. He joined the British Army under William of Orange and served as a Major in the Battle of Londonderry in 1690. He was later Knighted by the British and promoted to Lt. Colonel. He Made application for settlement lands in the United States about 1718 but never lived to come here. His wife also died in Ireland and this family was never in Salem, Mass. As the family chart shows. On the printed chartit also shows that Samuel, son of Samuel married Jane Cannon. This is also an error. The Samuel who married Jane Cannon was Colonel Samuel, Son of James of Cherry Valley. He was quite famous in the War of the Revolution.
