James Pope OLDHAM

                   NAME: Went by J. Pope, though family records show first name was James, listed as John in New FamilySearch

RESEARCH:  There are some discrepencies in the lineage back to the Washington lines.  Information on these sheets come from the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate, a copy is in posession of Jill Adams and a copy is online at erbzine.com.  The chart in family posession is used to document relationship to the grandparents of George Washington.  Other sources give different lineages that show a more distant Washington relationship.  Initial searched could not locate this family in censuses or any major online repositories. Some records pertaining to Major Richard Oldham refer to one of his sons as John Pope Oldham, instead of James.  This may be because he went by J. Pope, and his first name was not often used.  Further research in original records is needed.  One Ancestry tree added another child - Sulie.
