Alexander Cromarty with his wife, Margaret Annal, Lived in Upper House when Alexander Cromarty & his wife, Jane Gray, lived with their family in the Lower House of S.Cara the three years that Alex and Jane attempted to see if they could make a go of the farm at South Cara. This was after the death of James Cromarty 1898 who had been living in their newly constructed Lower House.     The two Alexander Cromartys mentioned above were first cousins.

CENSUS 1881 shows him farming with his mother. Ann (Gutcher)Cromarty. He married in 1883 and lived in Farewell where his five children were born. Then shortly after his mother died at Upper House of South Cara in 1892 he moved his family  in to the Upper House. His son Thomas was good friends with William Cromarty of Shetland who came to Canada and married Dorothy Lees.
