Ann inherited South Cara. See documentation for father, John Cromarty.
For complete Will there are 13 pages. H. Alex Cromarty has a copy.

We are trying to see what connection Alexander Cromarty who married Margaret Stewart 24 Feb 1795
in St. Peters church of South Ronaldsay with the Cromartys that owned South Cara previous to his
moving to South Cara. We don't know who for sure the parents of either Alexander or Margaret.
THERE IS A TOTAL LACK OF INFORMATION DURING THE LAST PART OF THE 1700s
FOR THE PARISH OF SOUTH RONALDSAY AND BURRAY.
THE FOLLOWING IS BASED ON THE CLOSE TIES THAT THESE CROMARTYS HAD.
THEY COULD BE ALL, OR PART OF THE SAME FAMIILY TO MAYBE ANN CROMARTY AND JAMES CROMARTY.
There is a John Cromarty that shows up after Ann Cromarty as Proprietor of Cara where he is
involved with rentals in 1790 and 1794 and later indicating that he was owner of Cara for a period of time.
Christy Cromarty shows up living with Alexander Cromarty's family in 1821at South Cara. with Christy
Cromarty's year of birth as about 1752 and Alexander's as abt. 1768
Catherine Cromarty's husband, James Tait shows up as a witness to at least three of Alexander's children's
               Christenings.
Elizabeth Cromarty and her husband William Cromarty are living in very close proximity to Lythes
and we have a William Cromarty witnessing some of Alexanders Children as well as to the
               marriage of Alexander
Alexander Cromarty married to Margaret Stewart must have inherited South Cara about 1812
the reason for his move to South Cara from Lythes. Keep in mind that South Cara was the
old home if not the original home of the Cromartys.
again note all his children christened at Lythes yet in 1821living in South Cara.
William Cromarty married to Elizabeth Durran moved to Lythes from Sandwick during the same
time period as Alexander Cromarty moved to South Cara indicating some sort of connection.
( Note the christenings of their children at Sandwick and then living at Lythes in 1821)
Jean Cromarty married to a James Laughton in 1821 living at Cara as well .
There has to be some very close connection to these seven Cromartys.
But keep in mind to this point of time we have no hard evidence that these children belonged to
Ann Cromarty and James Cromarty or are brothers and sisters.

This is the conclusion of a researcher out of Stromness by the name of Nila McCallum that did
a very extensive research on this particular problem. We are dealing with a time period when
a number of South Ronaldsay Church records just were not available. (latter part of the1700s).
