"He built the old Shelton Hall (probably the middle 1300's), a fortified
castle, and St. Mary's Church at Shelton, Norfolk.  He and his wife are buried
in the church and the brass effigy of the warrior adorned the floor."
"Sir Ralph fought in King Edward III's own company at the Battle of Crecy and
was knighted for helping save the life of the King's eldest son, Edward
(1330-1376)."
"Sir Ralph also won high favor at Poitiers ten years later when the English
again routed the French."
"At his mother's death in 1334, Sir Ralph Shelton was Lord of the Shelton
Manor.  He was 18 years old.  Through marriage to his first wife, Ann
Burgulion, he bacame heir to the great estates of Sir Ralph Burgulion, of Great
Snoring, Suffolk, England, and of Rediston.  He was also Lord of the Manor of
Brent Elleigh in Suffolk."
