BIRTH: Birthdate listed as 20 May 1869 in the Social Security Death Index. 1900 Census of Walker Co. TX gives May 1871 as date of birth. Birthplace also listed as Olendry or Olendry, Pyzderskie, Poznanskiego, Poland. 1930 Census. 1930 Census of Houston, TX gives place of birth as Berlin, Germany. Alternate birth date : 4 Jan 1892 NOTES: 1. John Immigrated in 1891 2. A Houston Chronicle newspaper article at their 69th anniversary lists their marriage date as 19 Jan 1892. However, for her to be 15 at the time of marriage, the year would have had to be 1891. There is no date on the article. It must have been written in January of 1960 or '61. It says he is 92 and she 84 at the time. Dates don't quite mesh. He may have been born in 1867 rather then 1871. I must check records at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly and census records. 3. John came to the US when he was young. He first met his future wife at church and then again three weeks later at a community dance. About six months later they married. 4. John was an immigrant working in the sawmills north of Conroe in the Piney Woods. Soon he opened a mercantile store, a business which flourished until he retired (about 1923 or 24) and they moved to Houston. The obituary of Ruby Lucille states they moved to Houston in 1922. 5. They had 9 children, five of whom were still living at the time of the newspaper article. ( More children appear in the census records.) 6. From humble beginnings and hard work, they thrived. They did not suffer like most during the Great Depression of the 1930's and their children were well educated and prosperous as well. After retirement, they invested in apartment complexes, living off the income from the rental properties. They resided for many years at 2130 North Blvd. not far from Rice University in Houston. 7. US SS Death Index lists Birth: 20 May, 1869; Death: Aug. 1967; SS#: 450-78-6738-issued in Texas; Place of death: Zip Code 77006, Houston, Harris, TX 8. NAME: Fossan/Fossian Daughter, Ruby, gave birth date a 24 July, 1875, but St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Waverly lists it as 27 July. 1900 Census, Walker Co, TX, sd 11, ed. 41, pg.9 gives her year of birth as 1880. It couldn't be since she married at 15, probably in 1891. A newspaper article celebrating hers and John's 69th wedding anniversary gives the date of marriage as Jan 19, 1892. She would have been 16 at this time. It also says that she is 84 and John is 92 when the article was written (Jan. 1960 or '61) He would have to have been born in 1867 to be 92 at this time. She bore 9 children. The first son, John, was born in 1893 and died at three years of age. Late in life, at 49, in Dec. 1924, she bore another son whom she named John James. Marie was a tiny woman in stature whose brown hair was only just starting to be highlighted with grey when she died at 87. She still cleaned house and cooked meals in her 80's and read 2 newapapers daily. When young John attended medical school in his 20's, she helped him study for his tests. She would have been in her 70's. 1900 Census, New Waverly, Walker, TX gives date of birth as May 1895. Birth date of 19 Dec 1894 is listed on the Social Security Death Index, which is the one used here. Listed on the 1910 Census (age 14). Death date is from Texas Death Records. He was a realtor. NAME: Boleslaus Vincentis/Billie Charles
Name: William Edward or William Bernard Bukowski. UGC found his christening record and it said, Valentinum Bernard /Bukowski/ On his World War I Draft Registration Card, he lists his name as William Bernard Bukowski. The name is hard to read, and appears to have a few letters (illegible) after the "d" in Bernard. William was known as Billy. He was tall, athletic and strikingly good-looking. He was an electrician and died young from peritonitis after falling from an attic where he was working. He had a two-year-old daughter, Beatrice, named after a sister who had died young. His daughter, Dorothy, was only a few months old and his daughter, Billie, was several months away from being born. His wife, Irene, hoped for a boy to be named after his deceased father. However, when the baby turned out to be another girl, she was named after both of her parents: Billie Irene Bukowski. IGI: Batch 7400020, Sheet 85, Source Call No. 0935151, Type: Film
