He was born and raised in Berkshire, VT. where he married Alice Johnson. They lived on farm near West Berkshire for about 10 years. In the winter of 1879, they sold the farm and moved to Minton, PQ. near North Hatley. This all hap- ened after a visit to Mrs. Rublee's parents whom had moved there several years earlier. During the summer of 1910, he went to the Canadian West in a freight car load- ed with household goods and livestock destined for a farm recently bought by Dr. E.J. Edgar of North Hatley, PQ. The following year, he was joined by his fiancee, Margaret McRae. After working for Dr. Edgar for a while, the couple acquired land under the Homestead Act in a new settlement called Hope Valley, in Alberta. [Charles Rublee mans.]
