Memoirs of Columbus Boyd Campbell M. Martha L. Baker on March 4, 1888, near Cassville Mo.dau of Rev. Caleb and Effie( Sellers) Baker.Children, Myrtle,Virgil, Ed. and Arthur. Obit; elijah W. campbell,for the past ten years a resident of Grant Co.Or.,died last Sunday evening,Dec. 7th at his home,one mile east of John Day ,after an illness extending over a period of more than six months. Cancer of the stomach was the direct cause of his death. Up to last May,when he bought the Dan Fisk place near John Day, Mr. Campbell and his family had been residents of Gear valley, having come there from Missouri in 1909.

Later to Lind, and after several other trades ended up in Hood River. After Helen died He stayed with daus. in Hood River who hadn't married and in 1945 he went to live with Blanche and Belva in Palo Alto. until he passed away.

For a while they served meals in a 4 room house his dad built. Later he filed a homestead about 2 miles SW of his dad and brothers.In 1908 they sold out and went back to Pierce co. Mo. by Marys mother. In 1909 they moved to Sawyer,Ka. and bought a ranch. In 1911 they moved to Altoona,Ka. to take care of Marys mother who had relocated. They bought a hotel and ran it for 9 mos. When Marys mother died they sold out and went to Garfield Wash. They bought a ranch across the Idaho border,near Potlatch. They lived there until late in the fall of 1917 when they moved to Dos Palos,Ca. They bought a dairy ranch and lived there for 26 yrs. In 1943 they moved to Port Chicago,Co. After the big explosion there they moved to Modesto to be near their son Coy.
