His daughter, Jean Mc Kenzie MOAR, said that her Dad felt that you should never put all your eggs in one basket. David's main profession was a merchant marine but he was also an excellent baker. David was a short man that at 21 years of age had silvery grey hair. It was so shiny that they used his hair to fish. Jean McKenzie MOAR told me about the adoption of Lilly MOAR and was verrified by grand daughter of John BRAIDWOOD and Christina PATTERSON. No record in the Scottish Adoption Records 1900-1929.

Notes:
Alexander MOAR died of the black plague. As a sailor they were forbidden entry into Vancouver, British Columbia, because of the plague. On a dare Alex jumped ship and purchased silk stockings for his girlfriend. He contacted the plague and was buried in Sydney, Australia. A snapshot of his grave was taken and mailed with a letter to his mother in Scotland. The snapshot is in my posession.

She married Alexander BRAIDWOOD on 15 Mar 1913. Seeking opportunity in Canada the couple left family and took a ship across the Atlantic to their new home. They settled in Ottawa where "Sandy" was employed by the Canadian government as a Lithographer for the Dept. of Mines. Jean had two daughters, Ana ( known as Nan) and Jean. Jean was an avid gardner and known for her roses. As a former dressmaker she sewed clothes for her family, her granddaughter (she made Valerie's wedding gown), and even her great grandchildren. In her 40's long after she and Sandy had moved to Toronto, Jean took a class in oil painting. Her posterity has been blessed with many a lovely keepsake because of her talent.

Notes:
Lilly MOAR was the illegitimate daughter of the choirmaster and a member of the choir. She was adopted by James David MOAR and Annabella MC KENZIE. She was born around 1904 (according to her sister, Jean Mc Kenzie MOAR). In Edinburgh I searched the adoption records from 1900 - 1929 and did not find it listed.
