                   When the great depression camein the1930 there was no work in Preston sohe went to Northwestern  to Dunrankin to work as a fireman in th sawmills

Joel and family moved to Richan Ontario  in 1932    He stayed there untilhis death but spent the winters  with his daughter Olive Waddell in Texasfor the last few years of his life

Joel and his wife Catherine are buried in the cemetery in Dryden   Joelused to play the accordian and could dance the Russian Bear Dance
