Edward Cottle first settled in Salisbury Mass. after coming from England. Twice
his home was burned by Indians, so he moved to Nantucket with his wife and 6 or
7 children. Later to Tisbury. Mass. in 1668/9.
Nothing is recorded in these vol. except her name as Judith and that they had
14 children.
This record states - The earlist form of the name Cottle goes back to 1250
spelled Cotele, Cothile. The family was found early at Atworth, Wilts, now
called Cottle near Melksham.
