Seth Webb MOORE
Birth Record of Orlando Moore from Clerk of Holden, Maine.
Page 048 of 1820 Census of 1st Plantation Range 6 of Penobscot County, Maine,
shows Seth Moore. It also lists a Cyrus Moore and an Abraham Moore. Other
Moore's listed on other pages include, page 010, Samuel of Bangor; page 042,
Benjamin and Daniel of Penobscot; page 594, Daniel of Castine, Hancock
County; and page 679, Benjamin and Ebenezer of China, Kennebec County. China,
Castine, and Bangor are all locations associated with other known Moor(e)
relatives.
Another source: Lineage of the Inhabitants of the Town of Brewer. Book No. 2
provides name of daughter Mary Elizabeth Moore.
Penobscot County Probate Records, p. 150, lists the following:
"MOOR, HARRIET A. of Holden wife of Seth W. Minor heirs: over 14,
William F., Lucy A., Harriet R., Alphonso; under 14, Selina R, Bertha
R., Arthur C., Annie. Gdn June 1864 their father Seth (40:113, 565)."
About foregoing probate: Both 1870 and 1880 Censuses spell Annie as "Anny".
Penobscot County Probate Records, p. 9, lists the following:
"BALL, ISAAC of Corinth. Will: 20 Dec 1854 - Probate June 1854. Wife
Eliza, dau Harriet wife of Seth W. Moor, dau Elizabeth wife of James
C. Brackett. Exr James Brackett. Benjamin Ball was named exr but
resigned (20:122)."
The absence of Urban, Orlando, Franklin, and Mary Elizabeth on the
listing for Harriet distracted me until I realized they would all have been
over 21 in June 1864. Until further research proves otherwise, I am assuming
the minor heirs were listed in chronological order.
Penobscot County Probate Records, p.150, lists the following:
Penobscot co., Guardianship
"MOORE, ABRAHAM of Abbott. Admr Nov 1847 son Cyrus (19:94)."
Maybe Seth is related since they were in the same neighborhood at the time of
the 1820 Census as noted above.
As noted in the probate, Harriet, the wife of Seth W. Moor, is the daughter of
Isaac Ball. The following information from the Vital Records of Corinth, Maine
provide additional information:

"This certifies that an intentions of Marriage between Mr Seth W Moor and
Miss Harriet Ball both of Corinth has been made public agreeably to the
Laws of the State of Maine Corinth Sept 23 1837 Iared Fuller Town Clerk"
Subsequent research from typewritten transcriptions of Maine probate records
shows Town Clerk's name as Jared Fuller. When I took name down it was from
microfilm of original records in the handwriting of the day the first letter
looks like an "I" to me. (Ellis Rail)

Death Date taken from Obituary that had 1929 written at top in personal
effects and mementos of Hazel May Morrison Moor, wife of Orlando Merrill Moor
the son of Orlando Moor who was the brother of Lucy A. Moor. Obituary quoted
hereafter: "DIED . . .HART - In Brewer, Nov. 21, Lucy A., widow of Charles F.
Hart of Holden, aged 84 yrs. Funeral at residence of Charles H. Hart, Holden,
Saturday at 1:30" . . . Birth date obtained in a letter from a cousin of
Orlando Merrill Moor named Mildred dated February 16, 1930 at Brewer, Maine.
It is confusing, however, because she says the age was "84 yrs-3 months-7days
which would have made her birthday in August rather than February. Someone has
lightly penned a small 9 above the 3 in the letter. I'll need to find some
other way to confirm it. The letter also mentions a Moor Cemetery in Brewer.
That will bear checking. I also noticed a Moore Road on a map of the town in
the road atlas. Letter also mentions Lucille taking ill.
1880 Census, dated 4 June 1880, for the town of Holden, Penobscot County,
Maine, lists Lucy, gives middle name as Ann, and gives age as 35, which would
seem to support the February 28, 1845, birth date.

This is person referred to as Aunt Hattie in September 23, 1923 letter
from "Millie" advising that Aunt Hattie has passed away. The letter is quoted
in full below. "Sept. 23, 1923 6 State Street
Brewer, ME
Dear Cousins:
Mother wishes me to inform you that Aunt Hattie has passed away. We have
been looking for her going for a long time. She has been a great sufferer, and
I know she was glad to get through with it all. She has been so weak for the
past two weeks that she couldn't raise her hand, and could only make herself
understood by the motion of her lips. I don't know as yet what arrangement
Uncle Arthur will make. The rest of the families are as well as usual. Mother
is real well but is tired by being with Aunt Hattie so much. Charlie,
Lucille, and I are fine as fiddles. Charlie has been on the jury for the
past month so with his own home work and care he has been a pretty busy man, his
business has been very good this summer, Lucille is in second year High School
and with her piano lessons she is as busy as can be, and myself you know I am
always busy, Charlie Hart and family are all well. The boys are in school.
Edith is quite a girl and thinks she should go to school. Am glad you like
your new home, it must be a very pretty place. George Hart is on his way
to California. He is going by auto, left here three weeks ago. He and a
friend making the trip. They are to stop in Montana for a while with his
chum's brother. They are camping and taking their time. Expect they are
having a great time. No more for this time. Love to you and Hazel and the
kiddies. Millie "
If this is Aunt Hattie, check records to see if married to someone with surname
of Folsom as there is an 1885 picture of Hattie Folsom's cat with the address
of 48 Alleghany Street, Boston, MA. Husband may have been a photographer, or
related to a photographer as some pictures list studio as A. H. Folsom, Boston,
MA.
In a handwritten letter of 1907 by Orlando (Harriet's brother) reference is
made to Hattie R. Moor. The letters appear to be concerning the matter of a
will (Moor et al vs. Folsom Executor) being contested and mentions a Mr. Folsom,
Arthur C. Moor, William Moor,
Lucy Hart, and of research interest, mentions the towns of Searsport, Belfast,
and Castine. It also mentions a George Moor who I haven't heard of before.
A letter to Orlando from Los Angeles February 28th, 1886 is signed "your loving
sister Hatty". Letter mentions someone named Gilbert (Husband or son?), Arthur,
and Sevey. Also mentions the death of someone named "our darling Leena".
