Loved working with horses. Killed by lightning while working on a railroad construction crew. It occurred at night while the crew was asleep. A thunder & lightning storm developed and Oscar became concerned about the horses and went out to care for them and was struck while doing so. Unknown to his sister Lillian, he had taken out a life insurance policy on himself, naming her as beneficiary. The proceeds enabled her to attend college which she otherwise never expected to be able to do. That changed the entire course of her life. At time of his birth, Alamosa was in Conejos County which was divided in 1924 and Alamosa County was created.

Married Beth Hopkins. Lived most of married life in Paonia, Colorado. Proprietor of the town's drug store and soda fountain. He and Beth were both killed instantly in an auto accident which occurred on CO Hyway 92 4 miles west of Hotchkiss, CO.They are both buried in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford, Colorado. He was always a "favorite" uncle. He never forgot a birthday nor Christmas and always sent a gift to me and my sisters. They never had children of their own. They adopted a baby girl whom they named Joyce. She married David Wenman and they had two sons. They were later divorced. Joyce spent most of her adult years in Idaho, eventually settling in McCall where she taught school.
He married Anna Laura Freeman 31 Dec 1890 at Alamosa, Alamosa, Colorado . Anna Laura Freeman was born at Lorraine, Harrison, Missouri 11 Oct 1871 daughter of Timothy Janes Freeman and Elcena Records Nelson .
