HISTORY:May 1780 pvt. Rev War Soldier credited to VA. in battle of Kings Mt and Wetzell's Mill, Capt Dysart's Regt. 1yr pension claim file S32509 Natl Archives. He owned 400 acres in Wash. Co Va. We have a 3 page letter written during war from him. more info in Scott book of descendants. B & D recorded off headstone in cem. Lived in N Carolina, S Carolina and then Jackson Co Tenn. They moves with pack horses 1816 to Crawford Co Ill, 1821 Sangamon Co Ill, DeWitt Co Rockcreek cem is between Waynesville and Wapella Ill-part of Samuel P Glenn farm. Some of children went to Iowa, rest to Daviess Co MO four sons were ministers. Father was Irishman (Research):Revoluntionary War Soldier, enlisted May 1780 residing in Washington Virginia and serveda 12 mos as a private in Capt Dysart's Co. Also in Capt William Campbell's VA Regiment being in the Battle of King's Mounatin and Wetzell's Mills. Allowed a pension 3 Dec. 1832 in Kickapoo McLean Illinois. Bureau of Pensions letter dated March 3, 1929 signed by Winfred Scott states "I advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War Pesnion Claims S-32509 it appears that John Scott was born in York County PA. While residing in Washington County, VA he enlisted May 1780 and served 12 months" Vol 41 p 112 276970; Pension claim #S-32509 "The Early Settlers of Sangamon County Illinois" gives his name and grandfathers, and first wife and child and who child married. Then gives name of 2nd wife. Cemetary near Waynesville, Ill gives birth and death on tombstone "The History of Daviess County Missouri'' author is Martin Scott, gives names of children and spouses with birth dates of most.
Records on her headstone in Cem age 72y 53d 2 census list Kentucky as her birthplace Census 1850 w/son William, DeWitt Co IL and Census 1870 Davies Co MO also with Will. (Research):"The Eary Settlers of Sangamon County Illinois" gives name of husband Tombstone in Waynesville Ill gives her death and age "72 yr 3 d" Census 1860 DeWitt Co Il and 1870 Daviess Co Mo show Nancy living with her son William. Children's names in "History of Sangamon County"
death could be 1859. A minister in the Christian Church. 1815 moved to Indiana, 1821 Illinois 3 towns.1824 minister in Christian Church and settled in Island Grove, Sangamon Co.Ill. In 1836 owned prop Funks Grove twp McClean Illinois
married cousin, children info in Scott Book pg 113, also other pages. lived in Tennessee, then Jefferson co Illinois ran a grist mill and saw mill on Kickapoo creek west of Waynesville. Alice Croys great grandfather we visited her in Jameson and learned all about family, got pictures and histories. A very precious little recently widowed lady of 87 in 1995. Her husband ran their farm until a few months before his death at age 94. She is our 3rd cousin twice removed and on another line (Terry) her husband is our cousin twice removed.
Listed as father on Ruth Terrys death certificate Birth year in Arta's Scott records is 1795 married a Virginian and moved to Jackson Co Tenn, 9 yrs later to McLean Co Ill where they farmed. (Research):dau death cert states he was born in Indiana -incorrect
married cousin Elizabeth Glenn, From Indiana, preached the first sermon in Waynesville twp and being a pioneer held sermons in cabins of settlers. Settled in 1827 sec 27 DeWitt Co Illinois with Samuel P Glenn 26. also buried there on Samuels property. Served on County Legislature. (Research):married cousin

one of 4 Scott sons to become ministers. Highly respected, elected sheriff 3 times. Without moving he was in Tazwell, McLean, and DeWitt counties over the years. He helped build the Pilot Grove church with John A and William S Brown and James Scott, that is now called the old Scotland Church and became its first minister.Now in his old years it may well be said that the world is better for his having lived in it. Beloved man ordained in 1844 called Elder Martin. 1855 moved to MO (Research):"History of Daviess County Missouri 1882" pg 862-3 Born TN and moved to Indiana, at age 15 moved to Sangamon Co Ill. In 1827 to Tazewell Co Ill which was changed to McLean Co which again was changed to DeWitt Co. 3 Times elected Sheriff. In 1844 ordained a minister. amd with Brown Bos and James Scott built the Pilot Grove Christian Church. also gives names of siblings, marriages and children. 1855 moved to Daviess Co Mo and built the Scotland Church
DeWitt co used to be part of McLean Co. First person buried in Cem on Samuel P Glenn property Waynesville DeWitt Ill.
He married Nancy Keith Feb 1785 at Ninety Sixth Dist, Abbeville, South Carolina . Nancy Keith was born at Kentucky 13 Sep 1766 daughter of Daniel [Sr.] Keith and Elizabeth Liddell .
