Charles Stern TOLLES
[carrol 98.FTW] Occupation: farmer, machinist, lumberman According to the marriage record of John C. Kelly & Mina A. Tolles dated October 14, 1892, Charles S. Tolles was a Justice Of The Peace in 1892. Charles Stern Tolles died at Myron R. Bearup & Leota B. (TOLLES), home at 1039 Campbell, Genesee County, Flint, Michigan. He lived 79 years. Charles helped Bro. Sheldon in the starting of the "Church of God" movement in the city of Flint, Michigan.
[carrol 98.FTW] Electra had a baby born, Vernard, before she met Charles. This child was the result of insest. Electra was raped by her father Sherman E. Stickney. This information was given to Carrol BEARUP Martin by her father Dale Edward Bearup. He was 16 years old when his grandfather Charles came to live with his parents. He said just remembering what had happened to his wife so many years before still upset his grandfather even in his old age. The long delay in the marriage of Electra's parents, she was almost 2 years old when they married, the obvious early birth of her first son when she was such a young girl(only 15 yrs) , 4 months before her marriage, and the devout Christian man that Charles was made me suspicious. When I questioned my father gently about the situation, he was shocked that I had guessed the family scandal. He said that eventually Electra's mother Elizabeth kicked Sherman out of the home as a result of his behavior. As of February 2000 I have been unable to find Electra's birth certificate to verify who her actual birth parents were. New clues found today were, the location of the Daniel Mack Tolles family home ing Hartland, Ridge, Hartland Twp, Huron County, Ohio. Other clues Charlotte Stevens, Charles's mother died in Wood County, Ohio where Elizabeth & Sherman were married. Also many of the Daniel Mack children were born in Michigan so high probablility that Charlotte's family had moved to Michigan. Since Charles Stern was once a border in the Sherman Stickney home prior to his marriage to Electra, perhaps his grandparents lived near the Stickneys. Also according to the note on Daniel Mack, Charles Stern was listed in the 1880 Census in Bowling Green, Oh, but I'm sure that would have been the year I found him living with the Stickneys. Could he have been living at both places. Maybe working in Mi?

As per Tolles In America book, she was also married to George Huber. I do not think this is correct. To my knowledge the only George Huber married to a Tolles was the one who married Nellie Grace Tolles. This part of the Tolles family was very close to my family as I was growing up. Perhaps the person who submitted this to the book just didn't know them as well. However I will put it into the notes until it can be verified. Carrol J. Martin, February 04, 2000
