                   Obit;  His parent's moved near Muscatine where as a young man he worked many years on a farm for
John Idle.  After he married they were engaged in farming near Cairo Iowa, later moving to Columbus Jct. Iowa, where he worked as a mechanic in local garages and was later an efficient town marshal.  During the first World War he moved to Moline where he worked in the Rock Island arsenal and a shell plant at East Moline Illinois.  After the war he was employed many years as a mechanic at the Troy Laundry Machine company in East Moline until he was forced to retire.  He had a beautiful voice and was also a good wood carver.  Mr. Welsch was a man of sterling character,honest and efficient in his work, a good neighbor and a friend to all who knew him.  He will be especially missed by the neighborhood children for whom he always had a kind word and a cherry smile.  He is survived by his wife, four daughters Mrs. Arthur Veeder of Oregon, Mrs. Albert Thompsonof Columbus Jct. Iowa, Mrs. Paul Lind of Moline Illinois, and Mrs. GeorgeNixon of Galva Illinois, four sons Ralph of Letts Iowa, Lawrence ofPeoria Illinois, Harry and Wayne of Moline Illinois.   He is also survived by two sisters Mrs. Mollie Carter and Mrs. Elizabeth Mavis of Muscatine, a number of g/children and a host of neighbors and friends.  His parents, four sisters. and a brother preceded him in death.   He is buried at the Roselawn cemetery in Moline Illinois.

                   He was in W.W. I Company C. 307th Ammunition Train as a Wagoner.  He wasa wonderful person.  He raised all of his children by himself after hiswife died.  He moved to Letts Iowa a small town so he could keep a closereye on them.  All of his children grew up to be nice people.  Notes fromobit;   Survivors are a daughter Mrs. Arthur (Elizabeth) Alloway, a stepdaughter Ruth Eileen Dunaway of Cicero Illinois, three sons Ralph Welschof Muscatine, Billy P. Welsch of Taylor Ridge Illinois, Jackie L. Welschof Colorado Springs Colorado, and a stepson Paul M. Barringer of ChicagoIllinois, 14 g/children, three sisters Mr. Paul Lind of East MolineIllinois, Mrs. George Nixon of Council Bluffs Iowa, and Mrs. Ada Townsleyof Oregon, and one brother Harry Welsch of Moline Illinois.  He enlistedin the service February. 22, 1918 to May 24, 1919.  Burial was at theColumbus City Iowa cemetery.
