John David SHAFFER

                   Md. Catherine Custer (1), Susanna Allison (2).  His will is found in the
Bedford Co. Courthouse.  He died in 1889, and also was known as Johannes. John
moved to Somerset Co. about 1812 with his parents.  Member of Evangelical
Church.  Buried at Cuppet Cem., New Paris, Somerset, Pa.

historian of Church of Brethren.  Sources:  Brethren Public House, Elgin, IL,
1953.  "The Centuries of the Church of the Brethren in Western Pennsylvania,
1751-1950."  David Shaffer and the Fausts may have come from York County,
probably near Glen Rock or Red Lion.  Check land grants.  David's father could
have been given a land grant.  Check Shade County as well.  The Shaffer and
Faust tombstones are not very far apart.  Redline area in York County, Penn.
Hessedarmstadt, Gy, could be where Shaffers were from.  Paul Shaffer had this

and German Pioneers.  Note H. Frank Eshleman in Lancaster Pa., Lancaster
Historical Society.  Faust distillery is near Glen Rock, York County, which is
3-4 miles from Fissel Cemetary.  Search land records of Somerset Co. and York
County, also wills.  Somerset is county seat.  Paul S. found nothing in land
records of Somerset Co.  David's and his wife's parents could be buried in
Fissel Cemetary in York County.  Note John and Dorothy Faust, Jacob and Eliza
--He died in Napier Twp, New Paris, (Bedford?), Pa.
Faust, Jacob Edgar Faust.  From Bedford and Som. History, p. 407, He came to
Somerset Co. from York Co. with his parents, about 1812?, followed farming.
Member of Evangelical Church and a Whig.  He died in 1889, and may have a will
in Bedford Co.
