Henry MOHLER
There is some controversy about Henry's father. Family lore has him as Ludwig, Sr. Some researchers in the late1980's, working with will's and land deeds, felt that it was Henry, Sr. A report found in the archives of the Studebaker Family Historical Center, done by Lawrence Brainerd in 1922 support the Henry, Sr. theory. I have returned to Ludwig, for the following reasons. The proposed family of Henry, Sr. had the following birthdates: Jacob,1721, our Henry in 1728, Martin, ca. 1750, John, ca 1755, Susanna ca 1761 and Elizabeth, unknown. This is 40 years. Henry, Sr & wife gave land to Jacob & Henry when each reached 35, why then? Supposing they gave land to sons at 21, this means Jacob, b 1735, John 1742, ...& Susanna 1762, 20 years of childbearing for them. More likely.
History of Bollinger Family, 1951. "Deed book NN, p 506, dated Feb. 17, 1792, John Mohler & wife Ann, of Cocalico Twp - to Peter Bollinger. Ann, daughter of Daniel Bollinger and wife of John Mohler, Peter was a son of Daniel therefore sister of Ann. Says Daniel died intestate - no date- and left widow Elizabeth and two children Ann and Peter. That book also summarizes will of John Mohler, Will Book N - Vol 1, p 86, John Mohler, of Cocalico Twp, Will dated Jan. 3, 1818, probated Nov. 24, 1821. Wife Ann, children: John; Elizabeth, wife of Samuel Fass; Nancy (Anna) wife of Philip Weist, Salome (Sarah) wife of John Eicholtz; Susanna wife of Benjamin Reigle; Mary wife of John Merkle; Hannah wife of Samuel Landis; Catherine wife of ____Shirk; Esther wife of ____ Royer; Rebecca, wife of _____ Studebaker. Executors - my three sons, Daniel, Henry and John Mohler and son-in-law Samuel Landis." It is interesting that all 9 daughters and only one son get property in the will. (Daniel had recd his in 1803, and John was in Ohio.) All the above is from a letter from Lottie Bausman to a Mr. Bollinger in 1947. Cumb Co Deed 2-D-164, 23 March 1827, execs of John's estate, as directed by will, sold a tract of 154a, 105p in Monroe Twp, for $5544 to Frederick Gantz. Plantation bounded by lands of Michael Hoover, Adam Bishop, Philip Weist, Peter & John Leidig, Jacob Krill & others. John & Ann deeded a tract of 224 acres and 102perches to son Daniel on 4 Nov 1803. I have not found that deed. Cumb Co Deed U-64, 7 May 1804, John & Ann sell 6 acres, 58p of land in Cumb Co to Martin Keller of East Pennsborough Twp. for 70 pounds
Salome married Martin Keller and had Elizabeth who married a Mr. Neiswanger and Salome who married John Coover. The chart has 8 generations on this line. Susan Coover (1st child) wed P.H. Long whose son John wed Naomi S. Merkel. This is Barbara Hessin Merkel Landis's younger sister. John and Naomi had at least one child, Naomi who wed Harry Williamson Stubbs on 2/12/1919. and the Stubbs had harriet Hickman (b 3/2/1920) and Joseph Merkel (b.5/24/1922)
Info from book Zug/Zuck/Zouck/Zook by Harry D. Zook "..lived for several years on a part of the Zug homestead. Moving from place to place then became a way of life. The year 1800 found the family at the Running Pump Tavern about two miles west of Elizabethtown, where their eldest son died at age 15. In 1806, they moved to a farm near Mechanicsburg, Cumb. Co at a time when the village had but three houses. the farm was sold in 1814, and a mill purchased on the Yellow Breeches and Cedar Spring Creeks. This property was later exchanged for a farm about a mile east of Carlisle where Jacob died in 1824. Margaret spent her latter years in Carlisle. Both are buried there in the Ashland Cem."
From the book MOHLERS OF OHIO Jacob and Mary are buried in the "Shippensburg Cem, Adams Co west of Gettysburg" "In the fall of 1842 part of Jacob's family set out for Ohio. Rudolph, John and Samuel were among them. It is also believed that the children of Jacob [M162] came leaving their father in Ephrata, PA to care for his ministerial duties. They settled near Covington, Ohio. Cora Garber gives his birth date as 6-30-1771, d. 1-29-1833. On p 122 in the book Genealogical Index of Miami Valley Pioneers of Ohio, Miami County, under son Samuel, it says that Jacob died in PA and Mary in Ohio in 1854 at age 72 File card in Lanc. Menn H.S "Jacob Mohler died 29 Jan 1833, age 61-1-29 buried about 2 miles south of Port Royal near Mt. Hope School." This guy?
