Henry MOHLER, SR
Most of this info is from Heydt. She says it was Elizabeth Anna who married John Landis and that there was another daughter Anna Christina. I think Anna C wed Landis & Eliz wed George Coover Henry and Elizabeth bought land 4-23-1735 and continued buying and selling as late as 1-10-1763. In 1766 Henry alone bought land, had Elizabeth died. His will, made Aug. 22, 1769, probated Sept 22, 1769 names "beloved wife Barbara" and goes on to be concerned that she might not properly care for the kids, (they are not hers). He & Eliz in 1756 gave land to Jacob, and in 1763 to Henry, Jr. The will mentions "all my minor children" and names Martin, John, Elizabeth and Susanna. It leaves only 30 pounds each to Jacob and Henry, they got theirs earlier. Orphan's court record 1772-1776, book, p184, at dwelling of Henry Mohler, on 14 April 1774, John Landis and Henry Mohler, executors of the estate of Henry Mohler, Sr distribhted 106 pounds, 18 shillings and 1 and one half pence to each, Martin, John, Elizabeth and Susanna. Not clear was which Henry's house.
Heydt: one daughter married a Mellinger and their daughter a Landis possibly these daughters aren't his Will, written 1April 1770, proved 25 July 1770, wife Anna, son Jacob, daughters Elizabeth and Susanna, executor brother Henry Mohler, witnesses Jacob Funk & Sebastian Keller. His son Jacob was believed to have married Maria Bucher and be the one now listed as PAF # 367, son of Henry Mohler, Sr. see note under him. Now we are left with a void for this Jacob. He was not yet of age in 1770 since his father mentioned " ...so long till my son shall have arrived to this lawful age." Will bk C-pg10
There is some controversy about Henry's father. Family lore has him as Ludwig, Sr. Some researchers in the late1980's, working with will's and land deeds, felt that it was Henry, Sr. A report found in the archives of the Studebaker Family Historical Center, done by Lawrence Brainerd in 1922 support the Henry, Sr. theory. I have returned to Ludwig, for the following reasons. The proposed family of Henry, Sr. had the following birthdates: Jacob,1721, our Henry in 1728, Martin, ca. 1750, John, ca 1755, Susanna ca 1761 and Elizabeth, unknown. This is 40 years. Henry, Sr & wife gave land to Jacob & Henry when each reached 35, why then? Supposing they gave land to sons at 21, this means Jacob, b 1735, John 1742, ...& Susanna 1762, 20 years of childbearing for them. More likely.
PA German Marriages, by Donna Irish, p211 lists a Martin Mohler married a Christine Martheyn on Jan 10, 1769. This is 9 months before father Henry wrote his will and died. Is this the same Martin that father lists as still a minor? Lanc. Co, Deed book, Q-1-5, 9 July 1774, Martin received land from John Landis, exec for Henry's will, had to pay 439 pounds, plantation and a second tract of 40 acres. will bk G-3-650, 10 Dec 1784, Martin & wife Christina, pay 1000pounds for three tracts of land 58 + 40 + 11 acres.
This chap is recorded in Lancaster court records as Hannes Mohler. [Will book L-1, pg 380-1] willsigned 19 Dec 1813, proved 23 Feb1815, mentions widow Catharine, sons: John, Jr, Daniel, Samuel, Jacob, Henry and daughters: Elizabeth, wife of Leonard Weaver, Catharine, widow of Jacob Thrill and Mary (evidently unmarried at this time). He leaves plantations to John, Jr. and Daniel at prices and paybacks listed. Estate is to be divided among all children with provisions for wife. Some of the lands left to John, Jr and Daniel are from his father and from Henry, Sr.
