Abraham SHUMAKER

                   From Historical Society 'papers' from Karen state "the birth andchristening of Abraham Shoemaker Jr. hand made and elaborately decoratedrecites his birth 4 June 1827 in Elk Lick Twp., Somerset Co.,Pennsylvania, North America, born to Abraham Schumacher Sr. and seinefrau Hannah who was born Sch.. - paper folded adn torn at this place withcouple of letters missing, ending is EN or IN; he is christened byAbraham Schumacher Jr. by Rev. Heinrich Geisey; the sponsors at baptismare the grandparents John Heinrich Schumacher and Christena."
                  

                   Balaam was a twin of Cornelius.
                  

                   Cornelius' parents died when he was 4 years old.  When he was 6, he wentto live with Peter Miller and family.  They resided on a farm nearMeyersdale, PA.  The farm was known as "Will Fike Farm" in SummitTownship and was located at the intersection of "Uhensrick and Shaw MineRoad.

Cornelius was a blacksmith by trade, learning at an early age by workingin the shop of Isaac Marteeny, Berkleys' Mills, PA.  Later, he workedwith Squire Gillian C. Luit and also, later, conducted a smithy businessof his own that stood on land owned by Elder C. P. Clark, near theFlaugherty bridge.

He was a member of the German Baptist Brethern Church for nearly 50years. He died at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 7 days.
