George Washington LENHART
Lewis attended scholl at Somerfield, PA and he and his wife, Rosalie,were graduates of Susquehanna University at Selinsgrove, PA. in 1914. Lewis was a Prisoner of War in Germany, World War I. Lewis served twoyears in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army of which eighteen months wereoverseas duty. Notices from the War Department, the Adjuctant General'soffice, Washington DC, Sept 11, 1918, and November 11, 1918 and a letterfrom the American Red Cross letter sent Sept 18, 1918 were received byLewis's family while he was a prisoner of war. After the war, Lewis served as a teach for a year at Millheim Pa.;another year at Milroy Pa.,; two years at Beech Creek and six years atState College High School, PA., the last of which he served as principalof the high school. He was appointed Assistant County superintendent ofPublic Schools of Centre Co., PA.
Lucy Catherine was a school teach in Somerfield, PA where she taught oneyear at a one room, five grade school where she was born. The secondyear, she taught at another country school in Fayette County, PA, BeaverCreek. To further her education, she studied two years at SouthwesternState Normal (now California University, California, PA). When Lucymarried widower Elliot, who had 2 daughters from a previous marriage, shehelped out at the family printing business. At home, she kept the booksand assembled printed items. Born January8, 1896 in Somerfield, a daughter of the late George and Maggie(VanSickle) Lenhart. Preceded in death by her husband Elliot and onedaughter Dora Isabelle. Surviving are two daughters, Sarah Lane Ambrose,of Indialantic, Fla., and Janet McMillan of Stamford, Conn., and twosons, William E. of Clearwater, Fla., and Thomas G. of Confluence, eightgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. She was associated for manyyears with the Beggs Bros. Co., commercial printers. A member of TrinityLutheran Church and the Trinity Chapter No. 138 O.E.S. Friends will bereceived from 3 until 9 p.m. Saturday at the Humbert Funeral Home,Confluence. The Rev. William Wilson officiating. Interment, AddisonCemetery. Contributions may be sent to the building fund of TrinityLutheran Church, Confluence. Trinity Chapter No. 138 O.E.S. will hold amemorial service Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. {end}

He took a correspondence course from the North WesternSchool of Taxidermy, Omaha, Nebraska; shot and mounted a chicken hawk forhis project and received a diploma May 5, 1916. Harry started to work on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad atConnellsville, PA., 25 April 19717, as a carpenter's helper. His firstjob was in the ice house at Connellsville. On 2 Aug 1926 he becamebridge inspector and went back to work on the 'gang' Oct 31, 1926. Harrycontinually changed from the Carpenter Gang, Paint Gang and ScaleInspector job from 1927 through 1939 so he could keep employed to providefor his family through the "Depression Era". While Harry was with the B&O Railroad, he was furloughed so heattended the Rake Auto and Tractor School, Cincinnati, OH and receivedhis diploma March 10, 1924. He belonged to the National Scale Association for 25 years and was ascale inspector when he retired from the B&O April 25, 1964 after 47years service. He is survived by his wife, the former Alice Smith; oneson George of Beaufort, S.C.; two daughters Mrs. Carolyn Cook of DistrictHeights, Md. and Mrs. Miram Glessner of Pittsburgh; five grandchildrenand one sister, Mrs. Lucy Beggs of Confluence. He was a member of the Confluence Trinity Lutheran Church,Somerset Lodge no 358, F. and A.M., Ancient accepted Scottish Rite Valleyof Pittsburgh, the Syria temple of Pittsburgh, the Tall Cedar of Lebanonand the Knights of Pythias of Confluence. Friends will be received after7 p.m. Tuesday at the Humbert Funeral Home Confluence where funeralservices will be held Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gordan Edwardsofficiating.
