Richard BANDY
The Bandy Family The original Bandy generation belonged to the Grench Huguenots who left France in the 16th century becaus of religous persecution. The name may have been "Baudoin" or "Bandoin" but changed, as many names were and finnaly called Bandy. Some of them stopped in England and Richard Bandy was born in Liverpool, married (Malinda ?) Jane Cummings, a native to Dublin, Ireland and thus or Bandy's became Scotish-Irish, too. The French Hugenots came to Virginia in large groups and were cared for by the Government until they were able to get homes and means of earning a living. Richard and Jane landed in Virginia, about 1745, perhaps in Cumberland Co., or Goochland Co., from which Cumberland was formed in 1748. They later went to Botetourt County ( then perhaps AugustaCo., as Botetourt was not formed until 1769) and to Bedford County ( created 1753 from Albemarle and Lunenburg Cos.). There are four known sorns of Richard and Jane Bandy--Twins Richard soloman and Solomon Richard ; Thomas and George. Lewis Bandy is also believed to be a son. The following may be their sons but this has not been proved: Robert Bandy; in Granville Co., North Carolina militia, 1755. James Bandy; also in Granbille Co. N.C., Militia, 1755. John Bandy ; killed in the Revolution either Pennsylvania or Maryland ( Archicies of Maryland XVIII indicate that he was a private , enlisted Feb. 25, 1778, discharged that same year and died from wounds James Bandy; also in Granbille Co. Lewis Bandy was in the 1790 Census of Edgecombe Co., North Carolina, Halifax District, with a male under age 16 and four females. He is believed to habe married Mary Barnes in 1785 and eventua;;y to have gone to Alabama. He died in Madison, Morgan Co., Georgia in March, 1827. One daughter was: Mary Bandy, born May 18, 1808 in Morgan Co., Ceorgia; died Sept.6, 1863 in Linevilled, Clay Co., Alabama. She married on Jan. 9 , 1834 Greenberry Jenkins, Sr. (born 1810; died 1887).

George Bandy found in a collection of work done over the space of 10 years of hard research this is the following information found on him: " George Bandy, born 1750-1758 ; died 1837 in Brechinridge Co., Kentucky. Married in 1778 to Dusilla Meador (she was named in will of Ambrose Meador in Bedford Co.,Va. ; she, was daughter of Ambrose and Frankey Meador). George Bandy sold land in 1796 in Bedford Co., Va.; about 11 deeds there for George Bandy between 1783-1818. He may have been in the War of 1812.
Thomas Bandy, born Feb ., 1748 in Cumberland Co. Va. In Franklin Co. when he enlisted in the Reveloution. In Boteourt Co. Va., after the Reveloution. To Sumner Co. , Tenn., about 1814 He died Oct. 18 1835 possibly at LaGuardo, wilson Co. Tenn. Pension papers are abailable. Several of his sons left for Illinois , were there by 1820 and intermarried with the Westbrook family. They left Illinois c. 1850-1860 and went to Missouri, some to Independence, Jackson Co., then appearing on the 1860 Vernon Co. , Mo., census . ( Note: Mrs. Penrose's Bandy ancestors were in Lawrence Co., Mo.) Thomas Bandy married first Mary "Pollu"Christian (?) in Bedford Co. Va. (she died in Botetourt Co., Va)
