       Ref 5:  Surrounded by a family circle unbroken through nearly two
generations, Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Henry (Tice) Wombles celebrated the ir
sixtieth wedding anniversary at their home in New Hartford, Sunday . The
Wombles clan gathered for the happy event, with all seven of the son s and
daughters and most members of their families present.  There are 51 i n the
family, including the 60 year wedded pair, 7 children, 24 grandchildr en and  18
great-grandchildren.  Mr.  Wombles was 83 last January 17; Mrs. Wombl es will be
75 next June 4.  Harold Cress, a son-in-law, says that Mr. Wombles ca n still
"walk me to death."

       Nearly every day, Tice Wombles goes 10 miles to his saw mill dow n on the
Sol Yokem farm south of Atlas.  He and his son, Otis, operate the mil l, with
the son-in-law, Harold Cress, associated with them as tie inspector . Another
son, Alfred F. (Allie), hauls the logs.

       Both Mr. Wombles and his wife were born in Lincoln county, Mo. , and there
grew up close together.  Their forebears were early comers to the Mis souri
border, some of them coming when what is now Missouri was Louisiana T erritory.
Mr. Wombles father was Fountain Henry Wombles, a native of Lincoln co unty.
The father's father (James Wombles--J. R. Gillis) came to the Missour i  border
in those old Indian days  when Chief Black Hawk was wont to dance wit h the
settlers daughters.  Mr. Wombles mother was Catherine Trail, daughte r of
William and Sarah (Sally) Trail.

       Mrs. Wombles was Cassa (she says some spell it Cassie) Holcomb , a daughter
of Hardin Holcomb, and Pricilla Houston, descendents of Kentucky pion eers.
Following their marriage on March 19, 1879, young Mr. and Mrs. Womble s went to
housekeeping in a log house near Davis, in Lincoln county.  The brid e lacked
from March to June of being 15 when she was married.
