John GORTON
1. Soon after his marriage to Susanna (2nd wife) he moved to Richmond, NH, buying on the 21 SEP 1786 80 acres of land. He sold this farm, receivung payment in the currently circulating currency which was repudiated by the Legislature before he could re-invest it. The Society of Friends, of which he was a member, presented him with a sum of money to make up a part of his loss. He then moved to North Adams, MA, establishing a weaving and retail cloth business. He moved in 1800 to Hancock, MA .
1. John was perhaps born in New London, CT. He moved with his parents from NH to MA and lived at Hancock, MA where his children were born. He moved about 1839 to Barry, IL.
1. Abel was a farmer, merchant and postmaster, and also owned a tannery at Hancock, MA.
He married Susanna Davis 9 Jun 1777 . Susanna Davis was born at New London, Connecticut 25 Sep 1754 .
