John GORTON
1. Soon after his marriage to Susanna (2nd wife) he moved to Richmond, NH, buying on the 21 SEP 1786 80 acres of land. He sold this farm, receivung payment in the currently circulating currency which was repudiated by the Legislature before he could re-invest it. The Society of Friends, of which he was a member, presented him with a sum of money to make up a part of his loss. He then moved to North Adams, MA, establishing a weaving and retail cloth business. He moved in 1800 to Hancock, MA .
1. He and his brother Oliver (257) bought land in New Lisbon, NY in 1793 where all but the first of his children were born. He moved in 1831 to Ypsilanti to be near his brother Job (258). David was a Quaker and is buried in the Friends Society cemetary in Ypsilanti, MI .
1. At age 19 Oliver moved with his brother David (255) to New Lisbon (now Garrettsville), Otsego Co., NY
1. Job went with his brothers from NH to New Lisbon, NY, then in 1809 to Fabius, Onondaga Co., NY and finally to Ypsilanti, MI in 1824
He married Mary Manwarring 2 Feb 1764 at Cranston City, Providence, Rhode Island . Mary Manwarring was born at New London, New London, Connecticut 31 Aug 1744 daughter of Oliver Manwarring and Mary Smith .
