Estate of George Swindle

Petition of Milley Drummond, Timothy Swindle, and James S. Kenrick &Lucinda his wife sheweth that George Swindle of Laurens District on orabout 8 Sept. 1812 departed this life intestate, owning a plantaion of300 acres, adjoining the lands of Geroge Fierce(?), William Drummond,Charles Maxfield, and ( ) Lairy, and leaving at the time of his death awidow Hannah Swindle, and six children, to wit, i. Milley Drummond, ii.Timothy Swindle, and iii. Lucinda Kenrick, your petitioners, and iv.William Swindle, v. George Washington Swindle, and vi. Rebecca Swindle,the last name being under the age of 14 years.  Petitioners pray thatsaide Hannah Swindle may be appointed guardian for her said minorchildren, William, George W. & Rebecca, and that said tract of land maybe ordered sold.

Summons to Hannah Swindle date 1 Feb 1814

Commission to William Arnold Esqr, John Stephens, James Powell Esqr, CaptAaron Cloer (or Clore), and William Powell to go upon the land and make apartition thereof.  10 May 1815.

Commissioners' return 29 May 1815 advises that contrary to the petition,the land can be divided without manifest injury to the interestedparties, and therefore they recommend against a sale.  Attached platshews land on north side of the Saluda River.
