NOTES: 1. Johannes (Hans) lived in Upper Emmenthal Valley near the villages of Rothenbach and Eggiwil, Switzerland. He and his family, as Anabaptists (Mennonites), were forced to flee to the German Palatinate to avoid persecution and seizure of their homestead. Later moved into the Gronigen area of the Netherlands, then emigrated to Pennsylvania. No record of arrival date. In Pennsylvania, he was ordained a Mennonite bishop and served in what is now the Hess and Hammer Creek districts in Lancaster County. NAME: Johannes or Hans STEINER
