NOTES: 1. John was a United Empire Loyalist, moving from New York to Ontario in 1783. 2. He had lived in Albany, New York and owned (with his brother, Peter) 100 acres in Rensselaer County. 3. Their property was seized on July 14, 1783 by the state of New York due to their Loyalist behavior. 4. John and Peter were on a "wanted list" in Poughkeepsie, New York in June 1778. 5. John served in Butler's Rangers from 24 Dec 1777 to 24 Oct 1779. 6. 29 Jun 1801: Described as 55 years old; 5'7" tall; dark brown hair; deep hole in cheek.
