Thomas came to America (mid 1660's) to escape England's bloody civil war. He purchased an 8 acre plantation in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, known as the "Hungry Harbour" and there married Mary Margaret Valentine. He was a Freeholder in Hempstead in 1702.
Richard Cheesman was a cooper, miller and yeoman by trade, as well as a plantation owner. In 1728 became a justice of the peace. Served in Col. Thomas Farmer's New York Militia. Purchased a 484 acre plantation known as "Christianity" from William Thorne, Gloucester Co. On 26 Sep 1726, Richard purchased 93 acres in Gloucester Twp., and settled there.
He married Margaret Valentine Abt 1670 at Hempstead, Long Island, New York . Margaret Valentine was born at Eccles, Lancashire, England Abt 1640 daughter of Richard Valentine and Deborah Mott .
