In history of Roane Co. Tenn:
A slave, Bill, listed as being seven years old, was hired to Eliza
McPherson for $14.50.
Leading citizens of the new county lost little time in organizing for
political action. On December 20, 1801, twelve men, having been commissioned
by the governor as justices for the new county, met and were certified for
offices, Members of Roane County's first County Court were: Hugh Nelson,
William White, Samuel Miller, Paul Harrolson, Zecheus Ayers, George Preston,
William Campbell, Jam,es Preston, Isham Cox, William Barnett, George McPherson,
and Abraham McClellan.
The Treaty of Holston was completed with the Cherokee Indians on July 2,
1791. The survey for the Treaty began on May 1, 1792. Because of delays the
survey was not completed until 1797.
