Notes:
Information obtained from the Internet on March 29, 2001 indicated thatGreen Smith might have been born in Tazewell County, Virginia. Theresponder, Jinny, also indicated his first name may have been SILAS GreenSmith. The reason I feel this is good information is that "Jinny" knows aboutthe Smith family, and has the same or similar names of the children as Ihave researched. She even has the nicknames I am checking to see ifher records indicate the spouses of several of Green Smith's children. If they are the same, then I feel this is a true FIND. She also providedinformation about Sarah Myler's family. She knows where several of themwere buried, and they show the same cemetery records as I have found. That is why I asked her about the Myler connection in the first placeGenerally is people are buried in the same cemetery in a tiny town inIllinois there is a good chance that they are related. I am hoping sheis right, because I plan to do some serious checking here to make sure ofthe information. You never know what you will find when you get on the Internet, but sofar, my results have been near miraculous. Green Smith, as I shall continue to call him, served as a Corportal inthe company commanded by Capt. John Wyeth, in the Black Hawk War. Heenlisted at Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois in May, about 1832 or1833. He was discharged somewhere on the Rock River. He was 6 feet 1 inchtall, with blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion and by occupation, afarmer. He was born in Tazwell County, in Virginia. The claim forpensioncontinues, "...after leaving the services, he resided at MorganCounty, Illinois for 14 or 15 years then at a part of Coles, nowCumberland County, Illinois for about 38 years. Sallie was married tohim on the 30th of January, 1821 under the name Sarah J. Myler; and thathe had not been previously married to anyone. She stated that he did make application for bounty land, the number ofhis warrant not being known, under which he received 40 acres. And thatshe now (1893) resides in Toledo, Illinois. Notes for Sarah Jane Myler: Her tombstone reads, "Mother of Jim AlfSmith". (James Alfred)
