                 Marriage Certificate

Whereas; Joseph Tomlinson, son of William and Martha Tomlinson ofRandolph County and State of North Carolina, and Jemima Bray, daughter ofHenry and Kezia Bray of Guilford County and state aforesaid; havingdeclared their intentions of marriage with each other before several ofthe monthly meetings of the people called Quakers at their meeting houseat Springfield, according to the good orger used amongst them and afterdue inquiring and nothing appearing to hinder their proceedings wereallowed of by said meeting.

Now these are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full monthaccompanying of said marriage this 25th day of the 1st month in the yearof our Lord 1797. They, the said Joseph Tomlinson and Jemima Brayappeared at publick meeting of the aforesaid people at Springfield; andhe the aforesaid Joseph Tomlinson taking, the said Jemima Bray by thehand did in a solemn manner openly declare that he took the aforesaidJemima Bray to be his wife promising with divine assistance to be untoher a loving and faithful husband until it should please the Lord bydeath to separate them.  And then and there in the same assembly she theaforesaid Jemima Bray did in like manner declare that she took the saidJoseph Tomlinson to be her husband promising with divine assistance to beunto him a loving and faithful wife until it should please the Lord bydeath to separate them (or words to that purpose.)

Moreover, the said Joseph Tomlinson and Jemima Brau, she according to thecustom of mariage, assuming the name of husband, as a furtherconfirmation thereof did then and there to these present set their hands:

And we being present at the solemnizing of the above said marriage and aswitnesses, our names are hereunto subscribed, the day and year abovewritten:
