                   hIS FATHER WAS A NATIVE OF tENN. AND HIS MOTHER OF mISSOURI His uncle,. Frank Chaney was a relative and it was reported that  within 4 yrs he had killed 104 bear...it was frontier country and wild game was abundant.

In l861 Mathew  enlisted in Confederate Army., Co. C. l0th TExas Volunteer Infantry under Co.. Mills. After service l867  he llived on a farm in Pikes Co.,  WAs a prosperous farmer til he retired.  Served as Sheriff  for 2 yrs.

Mathew's wife E. M. Jones   died in l967..they had one son
L. J. lWolf was 2nd wife apoparently they had a daughter..deceased
3rd wife Ann Pate and Mathew had 5 sons and l dau;ghter.
