Christopher Columbus CHANEY
Marriage date shown as Jan 1869 and 2 Jan 1868 Buried at Carrolton Hollwo Cemetery, Lead Hill, AR In August 1861 Christopher Columbus enlisted in the Confederate army as a private during the Civil War, Co E 27th Arkansas Infantry. He served in Col. Gunter's regiment about two months and in the latter part of 1862 was assigned to Col. Peel's regiment with which he served until it was disbanded at Shreveport, Louisiana in 1875.Besides several skirmishes he participated in the following engagements: Jeenkins Ferr, Manfield and Pleasant Hill. Returning home he engaged in farming and stock raising. Columbus settled on his father's old homestead. The farm contained 200 acres of land, of which 150 were in cultivation with fair improvements. He also had property near Lead Hill, Arkansas as well as at Osage. It is supposed to be part of the Spanish Land Grant. Had first horse-powered threshing machine Mr & Mrs. Chaney are communicants of the Cumberland Presb. Church..re: History of Caroll lCo. Pg l050 Christopher C.
