Sidney Graves ALDRIDGE

                   note; Sidney Graaves Aldridge was born in Carroll Co Ga he was age 11 in 1850
census of Carroll Co Ga.. He died in Winston Co Ala.. He married Theodecia
McCalman 9 May 1878 ..  Source of information for him and his family..
Tombstone at Barnett cem Winston ,Ala , Sidney is buried there.. The 1880
census of Harelson Co Ga gives his age as 41 born in Ga.. lic number from
marriage in Carroll Co Ga is 134  page 67..   Book E, Mar Book 1877 Carroll

Iraa B Speer was the son of James Jackson Speer and Emily Wesley Davis Speer
Sidney Sold his land Harelson Co Ga and then bought land in Winston Co Ala on
Sipsey River..  note; Sidney Graves Aldridge didn't marry Mary Ann Weir or Wear
but had a Child by her name Lizzie.. information on this is from Sherry

This was told to Richard Aldridge by Lois Aldridge Miller on the 2nd of July
1991. Lois is the daughter of Sidney Lee Andrew Aldridge and the granddaughter
of Sidney Graves Aldridge and Theodocia McCalman Aldridge...Theodocia McCalman
and Sidney Gravees Aldridge marriage was arranged when she was a baby.  Sidney
was teaching school somewhere in Harelson county Georgia. It was at a school
function Sidney told Marion McCalman that he was going to marry his daughter
who was a baby in his arms at that time.. Sidney said Theodocia was the most
beautiful baby he had ever seen... So the marriage was arranged at that time.
Marion from that on began to save for her dowery.. Sidney and Theodocia started
dating when she was fifteen year old.. Theodocia said she never dated alone,
some of the family was always in the parlor while they dated or courted.. She
said she never called him by his given name, She always called him or reffered
to him as Mr Aldridge or after the children came along as the children father.
Sidney was 23 years older than Theodocia.   Lois remembers ashing her
grandmother Theodocia,"if she loved him when she married him", She replied I
respected him when I married him.. She said she always knew the marriage to
Sidney was her destiny, and that he was always good to her.. Theodocia said
that Sidney came to Alabama, in Winston County to buy land because it was so
cheap ..  He bought the land for 50 cents an acre.. He bought 5 sections  of
land and planted a big orchard on it.. He built a home for his family and they
moved to Alabama in Winston County on Sipsey River..
Sidney Graves Aldridge bought all of the land of his brothers and sister in
Harelson Co, Ga , which was the estate of James Aldridge Jr .. After that
Sidney maved to Alabama... Mrs Peggy Burnett has the desk of Sidney Aldridge.
It has been remodeled but it is now in good condition.. It is about 3 1/2 feet
high, top is about 18" square.. It has been said that someone stole his money
out of the desk, this desk was seen by Richard Aldridge..
