died at 7:05 pm wednesday Aug 21, 1996 at Brian Nursing Care Center in
Yanceyville after four years of failing health.. A native of Caswell Co , she
was the wife of late Mr William Roach Simmons Sr who died in 1966 and the
daughter of Mr Robert S Miles and Mrs Ida Saunders, both deceased. She was a
former teacher at Pine Forest and Cherry Grove Elem Schools and was cafeteria
manager at Cherry Grove and Anderson Elementary Schools. She waas the oldest
member of Concord United Church of Christ in Caswell  County, where she served
as organist , Sunday school Superintendent and teacher, officer of the Women's
Fellowship and church secetary for more than 25 years.  Surviors include two
daughters, Mrs Glen(Dorothy ) Wilkins of Burlington and Mrs Maurice (Jane) Tate
of Greensboro; two sons Mr W R Simmons Jr of Elon College and Mr Elmoond
Simmons of Burlington: one sister : Mrs Erma Miles Madren of Burlington;  Nine
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.. Funeral at United Church of Christ
in Caswell Co NC..
