    "The Tates came from the north of Ireland to Penn., and thence to Augusta about 1745.  The first immigrant left four sons, James, William, John and Robert.
    "Robert Tate m Margaret, dau of John McClung and ______Alexander, his wife, and they left issue: 1. James; 2. John; 3. William; 4. Elizabeth, who md Col. Allen and went to Michigan; 5. POLLY, md Samuel Wallace, of Christian's Creek, Augusta Co; 6. Eleanor, md Samuel Patterson, of Rockbridge; 7. Phoebe, md Samuel Wilson, of Rockbridge; 8. Rebecca, md Reid Alexander, of Rockbridge; 9. Isabella, md John B. Christian, of Aughusta; 10. Sally, died unmd."

    Source: The DAR Lineage Book Vol. 150 p. 119 (Pub. 1930), states: "Robert Tate (1754-1832) md. Margaret McClung (1755-1839). Margaret's parents are: 'John McClung (1731-1817) md. 1754 Elizabeth Alexander (1735-1802). John McClung (1731-1817) served as a private and Indian spy in the Virginia troops. He was born in Ireland; died in Rockbridge County, Va.'"
    Source: DAR Patriot Index lists Elilzabeth Alexander's parents as "Archibald Alexander md 1734 Margaret Parks.
    Source;  DAR Linage Book, Vol. 155 p. 162 states that  Archibald Alexander was appointed sheriff and justice of Augusta and Rockingham Counties, Virginia. He was born 1708 in Ireland; died in Rockbridge County, Virginia.
