Luther James SCOTT

                   Luther James Scott was a warm, well liked person, always considerate and kind.  I remember as he operated his Country Store, very old ladies would walk all morning (about 2 to 5 miles, maybe more) to reach him for supplies.  He usually drove them home.  They would come with a basket of eggs as a means of paying, as cash was not really available.  He was a master of the Royal Secret of the 32 Degree of the Ancient and accepted Scottish rite, known to us and duly recognized by us in good standing, residing at Stone Mountain in the State of Virginia.  His registrar number is 186818.  He always taught me correct principals, but gave me enough freedom to make my own decisions.  If I goofed up, then he would help me get it corrected.  He cautioned me not to try smoking in the barn, so I wouldnt burn it down, for he knew all young boys try this.  As to chewing tobacco, also, dont swallow the juice.  I did and got very sick and never tried this again.  At his funeral which was held at the home in Bedford County, Virginia, well over a hundred people came.  Cars were parked in the yard and on the highway as far as one could see.
I could not enter the front room where his body was in its casket, just too moving for a boy of 12.  I knew him well and loved him much.  His loss was a major void in my life.   (Notes by Melvin Scott Jr.)
