John F. HURT
John F. Hurt was a private in Company F, 2nd Virginia Cavalry. He was detailed in September and October 1862 to wait on the sick in the hospitals. He was absent in March and April 1863. He was at the hose pasture with a disabled horse, wounded in action at Warrenton Springs. ( There was action at Warrenton Springs, Fauquier, 15 Nov 1862 and 12 Oct 1963.) John F. was transferred on 2 July 1864 to Purcell's Battery, Pegtam's Battalion Artillery. John built a two-story frame house in 1871 with rooms on each side of a center hall, and chimneys at the ends in a grove located by the Davis Mills Liberty Road. Back of the house was a one and a half story brick kitchen and shed for a water telegraph to bring water from a nearby spring. He sold the farm and storehouse to James P. McCabe, Flora's husband, for $2300.
NOTE: John went to Beatrice,NE about 1889 and seven years later to Flagstaff, AZ and worked in the lumber business. He got his foot crushed and was in a hospital for six months. He went to Fresno,CA in 1898 and worked for the Sanger Lumbar Company until 1900 when he went to work for the Sugar Pine Lumber Company, Madera,CA as a flume hand and boss. He returned to Tennessee in 1907 where he married.
He married Margaret Ann Elizabeth Morgan 22 Dec 1861 at Bedford, Virginia . Margaret Ann Elizabeth Morgan was born at Moneta, Bedford, Virginia 9 May 1839 daughter of Thomas Jasper Morgan and Elizabeth Saunders .
