Nelson Roberts Buck 

Funeral for Nelson Roberts Buck, 86, of Decatur will be Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy VanLandingham and the Rev. Kenny Baskins officiating.Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. 
Mr. Buck died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at NHC Healthcare of Moulton. He was born May 6, 1918, in Decatur to Carlisle Lamar Buck and Elizabeth Masterson Buck. He was a member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school classes and served in numerous other capacities over the course of his membership that spanned over 50 years. He served several terms as District Lay Leader for the Decatur District of the United Methodist Church, and served on the board of trustees of Camp Sumatanga. He was founding Cubmaster of Pack 31 of the Cub Scouts and served a term as leader of the Arrowhead District of the Cub Scouts. He was an accomplished woodworker. He retired from TVA as manager of the Nuclear Divisions Model Design and Development program.
Mr. Buck was a combat wounded World War II veteran and a member of the Third Armys 102nd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received during the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Hanks Buck; three brothers, Lamar Buck, Norman Buck and his twin, Gordon Buck. 
He is survived by two sons, Robert Loye Buck and wife Pat of Madison, and Raymond Douglas Buck and wife Janice of Durham, N.C.; five grandchildren, Amanda Buck Varella and husband John of Easton, Mass., Eleanor Buck Touchet and husband Russell of Memphis, Tenn., Jonathan Robert Buck and Rebecca Sarah Buck, both of Durham, N.C., and Russell Alexander Buck of Madison; one great grandchild, Emma Katherine Varella of Easton, Mass.; two sisters, Sarah Gilley and Rachel Childers, both of Decatur; and one brother, William C. Buck III of Biloxi, Miss. 
Pallbearers will be Tom Hill, Eddie Hill, David Goodlett, Mack Dunlap, Jimmy Sims and Larry Jones. Published in the Decatur Daily on 7/9/2004.
