                   BIOGRAPHY:  Joseph left school at an eary age. He had a dirty job which he did not like, so he read books, and self taught, became the South Island Boiler Inspector for the Railways (inspecting Locomotive Boilers). He advanced to North Island Boiler Inspector and finally New Zealand Boiler Inspector. The family moved around NZ quite a bit (Dunedin, Petone while working in Lower Hutt, & Palmerston North) and although he was away during the week, he tried to be home at weekends. In 1939 he retired after 40 years of service.
After the death of Deborah Smith, Joseph met Margaret in the church choir. He was looking for someone to help bring up his young family. Mag was disliked by the children.
