When James left Illinois he went to Missouri about 1890. He then went to Pender, Thurston Co., Nebraska to Harrisonville, MO, then to Cedarvale, Chautagua Co., Kansas then to Emmett, Idaho. He raised Angus cattle.

Written by James Percy Bennett the day of his brother, William Bennett's, funeral. It was written following the funeral at Harry & Lillian Bennett's house. FRANK BENNETT - born in England - came to U.S. about 1830. Lived in Illinois near (Somonauk)? No information on his wife. (1850 in LaSalle Co.??) Two sons, John & ______ were killed in Civil War. George lived in Minnesota at Cass Lake. Had ? in 1890 one son and one daughter 3 girls Ann Springer ________? Stover and Matty (maybe Matilda) Seaman. The first 2 lived in eastern Nebraska. Aunt Matt lived near my father James near Pender, Nebraska. Later they lived for a time near Harrisonville, MO. Then moved to southern Kansas (Cedarvale) then later to Emmett, Idaho. My father entered the Union army near the close of the Civil War at 18. He was a buglar in the 8th Illinois Calvary Co. K. After the war he lived in Minnesota for a time then went to Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Francis John Bennett like to play the coronet in a band. Some of the kids said he wasn't always a nice person, mean to animals and hateful to their mother. One time in Tracy, California, he grabbed Lucie's song books and threw them into the wood fire in the kitchen. She reached in and grabbed them. They say he had a bad temper. He cried his eyes out, though, when she died. Francis John worked for the government building crates during WW II. Before that, Holly sugar factory in Tracy, and managed a pig farm in Tracy - had moved from Tulare, California. Lucie raised chickens in Tulare. Lucie was not real head strong - pretty docile - a little afraid of Francis John. One time Mildred saw him slap her mom and Lucie ran to Boyd and Amy's house. Their home was run down - he didn't do a lot of repairs on the house. Lucie was Presbyterian. Francis John never objected to having the minister over or her church attendance. She would invite the minister for dinner every Sunday whether they had food or not. She was very active. He made the kids tow the mark. His boys could not swear in front of a woman. Howard tried to sneak out of their 2-story house in Missouri and climbed out the window and landed in front of his daddy. Howard was a lot of fun. Lucy Loma Duncan cooked lots of fried children. She worked her fingers off raising chickens. She was 4'10" or 11" and loved to eat. She attended church and was a charter member of the Baptist church in Tracy. She used to eat all the kids left-overs. She was always having to go and get Lucy at dances cause she'd pass out. (Lucy had an enlarged heart). Mildred skipped highschool alot. Mildred was 11 and Lillian were baptized in Tracy Beach (lake/creek). They knew their great aunt Jo Anthony (Martha J.) Ruth Anthony was a cousin to Lucy's kids and came to California with them but the

James Percy came with family to Missouri at age six and grew up at Freeman, MO. He united with Presbyterian Church at early age. James Percy graduated from Univerity of Missouri and Wisconsin University where he received his Doctorate in Horticulture. He came to California and taught at Berkeley University from 1917 until he retired. His wife, Martha, lived until April 1973. He retired in LaFayette, CA.
He married Celestine Adams 12 Aug 1874 at Plattsmouth, Cass, Nebraska . Celestine Adams was born at Plattsmouth, Cass, Nebraska 8 Dec 1850 daughter of John Q. Adams and Samantha Jane Franklin .
