John CORBETT, SR.

                   Dr. John Sr., resided in northwest corner of Bellingham, Massachusetts and declared himself the eldest son of Robert, and speaks in the same instrument of his brother Joseph, but names no more. He was liberally
educated by his grandfather Rockwood, who brought him up from childhood and made him heir to a large landed property. He seems to have been a skillfull physician and practiced much in the territory long before Dr. Samuel Leslie Scammell settled there. He was wealthy and his family took high social rank.

He died Dec. 5, 1726, having made a judicious will, wherof his widow and his eldest son were made executors. He was but 43 years old at the time of his death. His widow's death date was not ascertained. (Ballou's History of Milford, Massachusetts)

The following is from "Suffolk Deeds, Vol 23" page 90: John Corbett of Mendon, Suffolk County, N.E.: whereas my late honored father, Robert Corbett of Woodstock, same county, before his death mortgaged that ten acre right which he was seized of in Woodstock, to Mr. Thomas Harris of Providence, Rhode Island
for security of L10, which by reason of the great sickness which seized him and disabled him from labor and by reason of his death one year before mortgage fell due, and Mr. Harris made offer to deliver said mortgage to any person who might look upon themselves by birth of near relation: in his refusal of those
nearly concerned by reason of their incapacity, the land must have been sold for the clearing of the mortgage, Ebenezer Eastman, of Woodstock, appeared, etc. for the clearing of the mortgage. I, John Corbett eldest son of said Robert Corbett and my second brother Joseph, my grandfather John Rockwood of Mendon going security, said Ebenezer Eastman has paid, on 11 February, 1706. (Melvin C.
