William Jacob CLINE
SOURCES: 1860, 1870 Census Records, Jefferson Co., TN (From page 254 of "History & Families, Wright Co., Missouri",1993) His father, Peter Anderson Cline, was a Civil War veteran having fought for the Union. The Rebels knew Peter Anderson was fighting on the Union side. They came to the home where his son, William J, had hidden his horse. They backed him up against a tree, threatened his life, and took his good horse leaving a starved horse in its place. William and his 17-year-old bride came to Missouri in the fall of 1871 along with his wife's parents. He settled his family and rode out on his horse to scout a better area for his family. In Oklahoma he encountered Indians. he was shown a grave where a white man had been buried leaving his hand above ground. William returned to Missouri thinking it was the best lace to raise a family. They settled in Montgomery Township just north of Jerk Tail on the Gasconade Riv
