Deed Book H, p. 368-Wills of Nicholas Co., KY-same book 5 Jun 1822 Made a Will-contract was between Joseph Bartlett, Dorcas Wilson, Polly Prather, Nancy Buchanan, Phebe Duncan, Betsy Swarts, Samuel Bartlett (children & heirs-of Nicholas Co., KY-and Ebenezer Bartlett of Fleming Co., KY; also William Bartlett & Ann Foster (who have departed this life-Wm has 2 children-entitled to portion of their father; Anna left 7 children-entitled to her portion) Widow-Phebe Bartlett-entitled to 1/3 part of Estate Ebenezer Bartlett has purchased her interest; Widow is dissatisfied in the estate & Ebenezer offers her $1,000 for her interest in the estate. Joseph sold his entire interest in estate to Ebenezer. Written on the margin of Contract-Parties of 1st part (his bros. & sisters?)-agree to pay Ebenezer 1/10th part each and the parties empower him (Our Attorney in Fact). June Court 1822-Circuit Court, Nicholas Co., KY-Widow, Phebe filed suit vs. Ebenezer Bartlett (Administrator of Estate). She renounces Will of William Bartlett Sr., his real and personal property, including slaves, which includes land at Lower Blue Licks, home & farm & mansion house. She was awarded $7,000 Dower-she got all. Ebenezer tried to fight; case dismissed. 5. Deed Book H, p. 378-Bartlett Heirs Agreement Contract, dated 5 Jun 1822-Marion J. Nicholas Co., KY Court Records (abstract) formed from Bourbon and Mason Co. in 1793 9. Deed Book B-p. 31, dated 4 Jan 1802 It says 'William Bartlett, of Nicholas Co., KY purchases 1,200 acres of land in Nicholas County from Humphrey Marshall.' 10. Deed Book 4-p. 402 (dated 1816) It says 'Phoebe Buchanan, widow and relict of James Buchanan, deceased, & James Buchanan, heir at law of the said Buchanan, deceased, & Nancy, his wife, sell land in Nicholas County to William Bartlett.' 7. 1997 Ordinance Index 8. 1998 Ancestral File (nil) BURIAL: Old Bartlett Planatation. It is now known as Hammond farm, 4 miles from famous Blue Lick Spring; Tombstone says-William Bartlett-pioneer- died 1820 BURIAL: Child #1 (under age in 1803) buried on old Bartlett Plantation-by his father. NAMES: Phoebe/Feaby (spelling on her marriage bond) (Child #3) BIRTH: 1777-1780 (Child #4) NOTES: Child #7 md again and had 7 children now living who deserve her share of Father's estate. She must have been dead in 1822 also. BIRTH: 1799/1800 (wife of Child #8) NAMES: Marcie/Massie/Mazie (Child #9) MARRIAGE: 10 Aug 1815/12 Aug 1818 (Child #9) NOTES: Husb, in 1776-a rugged pioneer from VA-stopped on Stoner Creek, Bourbon Co., KY, then Fincastle Co., VA-there in 1775; lived for some years in Orange Co., NY. Paris, KY is now located on this ground. He followed a Buffalo Trail and located Blue Lick Springs; secured a grant of an extensive body of land from VA state government, which included famous Blue Lick Srpings. With his wife and son-in-law, James Buchannan, lived at the Springs and made salt. He divided a part of this land into town lots, built cabins and called it 'Bartlettsburg'. For more details reference is made to "Battle of Blue Licks", Aug 19, 1782 by Samuel M. Wilson, p. 124-published in 1927. Note" The subject (Blue Lick(s) Springs) has been the subject of litigation in the courts of KY for may years. The famous Blue Lick Springs, noted all through 'Dixieland' and far into the North, as being the most fashionable summer resort in the South, was started by William Bartlett. Only two children were still living in 1822. 2nd wife, Mrs. Phoebe Buchannan (widow of James Buchannan of Nicholas Co., MA 1818. William Bartlett had no children by her. Will Book #G (pages 6,7,8) NOTES: 1. Ebenezer Bartlett, of Fleming County, KY occupation an Attorney. 2. Ebenezer Bartlett's Will - Recorded in Book #G (pages 6,7,8) Carthage, Hancock, IL - Dated 30 Oct 1843; proven December 1843 - Witnesses - William Darnell and Nathan H. Grafton (xerox copy in Marion Grace Jewell Nicholls possession. 3. Ebenezer and Rebecca Standiford, moved to Illinois in 1830, settled near Springfield,Sangamon,IL. Remained there for four years and moved to Hancock County, IL - while living in Hancock County, Ebenezer owned and operated a grist and saw mill, living there for ten years until his death. 4. Some of the date were determined by those who were processing the Temple work. 5. His father's widow, "Mrs Phebe Buchanan" , took Ebenezer to court after her husband William death, she accused Ebenezer and his brother Samuel - of rudeness to her, It is not shown how much of her husband's estate she got - but she had to pay the court costs.
