NOTES: 1. Captain Isaac Davis - First Commissioned Officer killed in the Revolutionary War He was at the head of his Company (at the Fight on North Bridge - Concord,MA) 2. He joined the Church ? 10 February 1765. 3. His old Homestead is or was later owned by Mr Charles wheeler (a) Locateed abouth 80 rods Southwest of present site of Deacon W.W. Davis's House. (b) Two fine Elm trees - planted by Captain Davis - still mark the location on the opposite side of the road (from where his house stood) (c) The Acton Company gathered there to go to Lexington (d) A funeral of the three victims was held there. 4. Captain Davis had 38 Acton Minute-Men, In the hestancy of the older Officers to attack the British Regulars. Captain Davis drew his sword and said,"I amnot afraid; I haven't a man that's afraid to go". He led two companies from Concord, two from Bedford, and 1 from Lincoln as well as his own company. They advanced to the bridge to the turn of "The White Cockade." Captain Davis was thefirst to fall. (a) The other two victims of the fight were friends,neighbors and relatives; 1. Abner Hosmer - son of Deacon Jonathan Hosmer (age 22) who was engaged tomarry a Miss Sarah Davis, she later married his brother Stephen Hosmer. 2. James Hayward - son of Deacon Samuel Hayward was killed agter the battle,near Fisk Hill(on the road from Concord to Lexington) He lived eight house after he was shot. 5. A monument was erected by the town and State jointly in 1851, Inscription= "To the memory of Captain Davis and his two soldiers", Their remains were placed under the Memoral
